BEAUTY REPORTER
editors’ favorites • They call it the season of giving, but they never really specified to whom. This holiday, we’ll be treating ourselves (and, sure, some loved ones) to these luxuries.
this or that • Just in time for a packed calendar of holiday parties, bows are a festive—and foolproof—way to package any hairstyle.
so vanilla • Niche fragrance houses, usually arbiters of the cool, unexpected, and a little bit strange, suddenly want us to smell like fresh-baked cookies. What gives?
talent show • London-based nail artist Sophie Parkinson (@soph_builds_nails) creates intricate 3D nail art with builder gel, a UV light, and boundless ingenuity.
MOOD BOARD babylon • Hollywood, land of dreams—and lots of drama. Babylon, a film directed by Damien Chazelle, premiering on December 23, follows the rise and fall of actors in the 1920s. It’s a complicated story, a bit raw at times, but of course, glamorous too. We got a window into the months of planning and unexpected inspiration behind these 188 minutes of brilliant, beautiful chaos.
star quality • Jodie Comer and I are both from Liverpool. She’s from the one in the northwest of England, home of the Beatles, and I am from the one in the center of New York State, near multiple shopping malls. Both towns offer accents routinely mocked by their larger-city counterparts, which may be the reason I feel an instant connection with the 29-year-old Emmy- and BAFTA-winning star. Although our day jobs are slightly different—Comer has a Benedict Cumberbatch-produced apocalypse film, The End We Start From, in the works, and a production of Prima Facie coming to Broadway—we both appreciate the power of a good tub and the right cocktail of essential oils. Really, the similarities are endless.

pricks of the trade • As full-frontal male nudity becomes increasingly commonplace on film and TV screens, the prosthetic penis has evolved into a new Hollywood art form. Kirbie Johnson investigates how the sausage gets made.
